Be Thankful!

Psalms 127:3-5

“Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord, the fruit of the womb a reward. Like arrows in the hand of a warrior are the children of one's youth. Blessed is the man who fills his quiver with them. He shall not be put to shame when he speaks with his enemies in the gate.”

There are so many things to be thankful for in life. We can be thankful for a new day, for waking up in the morning, for having a roof over our head, food to eat. We can also be thankful for the cars we drive, the jobs we have.  Some things I'm thankful for is peanut butter and chocolate, lol. I can go to the grocery store and for just over $1, I can get peanut butter cookies that taste better than tag-a-long girl scout cookies. I'm also thankful for my place of employment. I get to come to a place where I feel wanted and valued.

With so many things to be thankful for, when is the last time you thanked God for your kids? How often do we go to God and say, "Thank you for the kids you've given me"?  Believe me, I get it … it can be challenging sometimes raising kids. I've learned a lot of phrases I've never thought I'd say in my life … until kids that is. "Don't put peanut butter on the dog!" "Why is my sock in the toilet?" "You washed my car with rocks?"  Or, how about, "You broke my trust. How can I trust you to drive responsibly anymore?" OR, when your kid comes to you and says, "I hate you! You're ruining my life".  There's a lot more phrases we deal with … we could all write a very long book on those phrases. But even in those times, can we say we are thankful?

Psalms 127:3-5 says children are a gift, a heritage from God. It's easy to thank God for our kids when they do the right things. It's much harder when they are doing the wrong things.

Why should we be thankful for our kids? Well, first of all, God calls us to be thankful. Whenever you get a gift you thank the person giving it to you. God gave you a gift, so we thank him. It should be that simple.

Another reason is because it brings life to your kids. Your child will feel loved, valued, and empowered. If someone comes to you and tells you how thankful they are of you, how does that make you feel? It gives you motivation! It blesses you!

Kids need to know they are valued. So the question I have for you is … when was the last time you thanked God for your kids. And just as important, when is the last time you went to your kid and told them you were thankful for them?
